Madonna di Campiglio reaches a worldwide audience of more than 1 billion viewers
Madonna di Campiglio, 16 January 2010 - The curtain falls on the 20th edition of Wrooom, the media event organized by Philip Morris International to spotlight the upcoming F1 and MotoGP seasons.
The final evening saw the traditional race meet on the frozen circuit on the Madonna di Campiglio lake featuring the Ferrari and Ducati pilots who put on an thrilling show full of incident. A crowd of thousands watched the first race between Fiat Panda 4x4s. First over the line was a beaming Felipe Massa who was clearly very pumped up. Next came the go-kart race which was won by Nicky Hayden. Dudu Massa failed to finish and Fernando Alonso caused a sensation by crashing out against the guard rails one lap from the end.
The Press Ski Meeting ended at the Zangola with the prize-giving for the morning's ski race, won by Giancarlo Fisichella on his 37th birthday.
“The 20th edition of Wrooom went off beautifully and exceeded our wildest expectations,” claimed Delio Picciani, Director of the Madonna di Campiglio, Pinzolo, Val Rendena Tourism Agency. "First of all, we must thank the organisers for their outstanding professionalism and commitment throughout the event. Then there was Fernando Alonso, who proved to be a hugely popular personality, a real team man and a very likeable champion. The pilots and teams pulled out all the stops to meet the people of Campiglio in the town and on the pistes. Finally, we are very grateful to the various local authorities—the province, the town council and the cable car operators— who worked so smoothly together, and above all the many young volunteers who did such a fantastic job over the whole week."
The event enjoyed global visibility worthy of a Grand Prix. With the "Wrooom F1 & MotoGP Press Ski Meeting" Ferrari and Ducati put Madonna di Campiglio, Val Rendena and Trentino firmly on the world stage, attracting over 160 reporters from the major international newspapers, radio and television stations to the “Pearl of the Dolomites”.
“It's too early to draw up a full picture of the effects of Wrooom 2010,” concluded Delio Picciani. "What we can say with certainty is that over 1 billion viewers worldwide had a rare chance to witness the beauty of this inimitable region and the style and quality of Italian hospitality. We were also able to use the occasion to present the new Madonna di Campiglio ski area and promote the Brenta Dolomites World Heritage Site. So we look forward to hosting Wrooom for many years to come!”
